The Coming of Wisdom with Time
Though leaves are many, the root is one;
Through all the lying days of my youth
I swayed my leaves and flowers in the sun;

這是愛爾蘭詩人葉慈（William Butler Yeats）所寫的一首詩，中譯摘錄於楊牧所編的《葉慈詩選》。這首詩所蘊含的意境溢於言表，每次閱讀這首詩都會有不同的感受。第一次閱讀這首詩時，感覺像是單純的描述景物。經過多次品嚐後，才逐漸發現它所蘊含的真理其實出乎意料的深邃——但卻又僅如表面所描述般那樣單純。原來閱讀英文詩，也會是一件這麼過癮的事。
